Department of Sociology of Northern Illinois University

W. William Minor Bill Minor

Department Chair and Associate Professor

Ph.D. Florida State University

Scholarly Interests: I'm interested in most aspects of crime and criminal justice, but my interests have broadened and become more interdisciplinary in recent years.  With a colleague in Geography, I'm studying employment access and crime rates in Cleveland.  In summer 2002 I worked with colleagues in English and Women's Studies on Outpost NIU, an interdisciplinary program combining environmental sociology, nature literature, and applied environmental study (e.g., backpacking, fly fishing, rock climbing).  At some point I suspect my environmental interests and my criminology  interests will merge.

Recent Courses Taught: The Criminal Justice System, Criminology, The Nature of Crime, Environmental Sociology
