Visting Assistant Professor

A.B.D. University of Illinois at Chicago

Julie Globokar grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. An internship at a local probation agency sparked her interest in the nation’s correctional system, prompting her to pursue a graduate education in the field of criminal justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has since taught a number of courses related to criminal justice and the sociology of law, including Race, Class, Gender, and the Law; Law and Society; and Introduction to Criminology, with experience in both face-to-face and online educational environments. Her current research is centered on an exploratory case study of the relationship between probation supervision and gentrification in an urban neighborhood, though she has also published on the topic of immigrant women’s experiences with domestic violence. When she is off campus, Ms. Globokar most enjoys spending time with her husband Mark.
